About Us!

Our family has always been physically active, participating in a variety of sports. In their teens and twenties, Todd & Tim had a home gym in our parents’ basement. It became a dream of theirs to open a small-town gym. When our father, Ted Hoover, passed away in 2011, the drive to open a gym as a way to honor him took hold. The GYM of West Milton opened its doors in June of 2012.

The people that bring you the gym

Owning a gym was always just a dream of mine, since I started lifting in the 80’s. I have a love for this lifestyle and I enjoy having a place to see other people benefit from exercise and healthy nutrition.

I competed in my first bodybuilding show in 1993 and have done a few since. My dad was always a big motivation to me, not that he lifted weights, but he always exercised and participated in the West Milton Triathlon until the year he passed away. I believe in his philosophy, “attitude affects your altitude”.

My role at the GYM is simple, help people any way I can. I want people to learn how to be healthy so they can do it on their own, and not feel the need for a trainer/coach. Exercise is an enjoyable lifestyle when you finally make it a priority.

I started lifting weights in my parents’ basement during the early 80’s. I participated in the first West Milton Triathlon as my dad's partner in 1983, continuing as partners until 2010.

Exercise became a big part of my life. I participated in my first bodybuilding competition in 1993.

When the opportunity to open a gym in West Milton came about, it seemed like a good way to honor my dad’s memory and my Bulldog roots. I wanted a place to work out that was an all-purpose gym. I believe that is what we have.

My role at the GYM is to encourage and support members as they include exercise in their lifestyle. My hope is to leave a Hoover brothers' legacy in West Milton.

As a retired teacher, Todd & Tim thought I could be helpful in the office of the GYM. I started helping them with membership records in November of 2016.

In January of 2017, I joined them as a partner. Being part of a family-owned and operated business is rewarding.

My main role is administrative, keeping the membership records up to date, as well as activating and deactivating access keycards.

Attitude!

Author, Charles Swindoll, has a great quote we’ve always considered for everything we do for the GYM and in our lives:

Charles Swindoll

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.
